Our work with sustainability in the High Coast affects all areas of the destination, making knowledge, desires and actions extra important on our journey towards becoming a long-term sustainable destination.

Sustainability throughout

Our work with sustainability in the High Coast affects all areas of the destination, making knowledge, desires and actions extra important on our journey towards becoming a long-term sustainable destination. Our visitors are becoming more and more environmentally conscious and in order for us to be thought of as credible, we need to work with sustainability systematically and with a long-term perspective. This is essential if we are going to keep the High Coast’s unique region attractive for those who live here, visitors and businesses.

Carbon-neutral destination of top international class

As a destination, we need to have a plan for how we work and follow up on our joint work with sustainability from all three dimensions. We need to ensure the preservation of our unique nature and culture, take care of our local communities, and create attractive places to visit and conditions in which businesses can thrive. We need to take a sustainable approach when making all decisions regarding reaching our goal of doubling our turnover together with a high level of local ambassadorship in a carbon neutral destination of international top class. This could, for example, mean that we decide not to focus on far-flung international markets in order to focus on regions that are closer to us, all to reduce environmental impact. Or that we decide to promote how we preserve our unique nature and culture, how we take care of our local communities, and how we create attractive places to visit and conditions in which businesses can thrive.

More visitors, all year round

Today, the majority of our visitors come here during the summer months, primarily in July and August. We need to create conditions that will result in visitors coming here all year round. To do this, we need to create more experiences and attractions during the autumn, winter and spring. This would make it easier for businesses to become profitable year round and the distribution of visitors in the region would be more even.
